Many of the programs at Upper Lynn wouldn't exist without our amazing volunteers. There are many volunteer opportunities ranging from joining a committee to volunteering for a specific position.
Volunteering is rewarding & fun. You will feel more connected to other parents & to the school. No experience necessary! The Executive will provide you with all of the support & information that you need. There is something for everyone. We welcome you to the team. Class Reps
Volunteer to be your class representative. Positions will be filled in September when we know the divisions, but you can put your name forward now. You will create a class list for parents, forward PAC emails to parents, help coordinate teacher gifts, silent auction donations and volunteers for Carnival in June. The position can be shared by two parents.
Time: Not much through the year other than forwarding emails, a bit more at Christmas/year end gift and Carnival for coordinating baskets and volunteers.
Hot Lunch Leaders
This person becomes a lunch theme expert and leads a specific lunch day (Subway, Pizza, etc.). The commitment is about 5-7 times per school year.
Hot Lunch Volunteers - we can always use more, please volunteer via MunchaLunch or email [email protected].
Hot Lunch volunteers assist with sorting & distributing lunch to kids primarily on Mondays, Fridays, and some Thursdays). This is a fun, social volunteering opportunity, and you get to pop in and see your kids!
Time Commitment: 11:45am - 1:00pm | Hot Dog Days are 10:45am - 1:00pm.
PAC Board
Update & decorate the PAC bulletin board monthly (or seasonally) with calendar, information and events. This is a fun job for someone with artistic flair.

Works closely with the PAC executive, school administration and school parent community in selecting annual speakers. Responsible for organizing all aspects of a presentation including:
Poinsettia Fundraiser
Coordination of the Poinsettia fundraiser includes setting up the fundraiser with the supplier and overseeing orders. Requisition of total orders to be submitted and liaising with flower supplier. Delivery coordination and parent pick up coordination. The Poinsettia Fundraiser occurs in November with delivery in December.
Purdy's Chocolate Fundraiser
Coordination of the Christmas and Easter Purdy's Chocolate Fundraisers. Includes setting up the fundraiser with the supplier, overseeing orders, accepting delivery of orders, sorting orders and arranging pickup and/or distribution of orders to parents.
Card Project
Coordinate with administration to ensure support in running The Card Project and establish timing. Liase with Marcelle at the Card Project to provide students names/grade/division, ship (or deliver) the art to the supplier, put up posters, provide newsletter information, distribute the orders to classrooms.
Fruit & Veggie Program Coordinator
Fruit & Veggie Program Volunteers
Assist Fruit & Veggie Program Coordinator with sorting and distribution to classrooms once per month.
Time: 30 minutes once per month
School Supplies Coordinator
Coordinates with School Supply company, and Principal, to set-up School Lists in April/May. Final lists are printed and sent home with each student to encourage early ordering. Lists for each grade is posted online and parents mostly order and pay online. Supplies are delivered to the school at end of August - requires sorting and organizing by grades and classes to facilitate easy pickup by students.
Spirit Wear Coordinator
Coordinate ordering, sales and distribution of ULE Orange Shirts (October), ULE Pink Shirts (February), and ULE Spirit Wear.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Special Events Coordinator
Oversee the planning and execution of the Drive-In Movie Night and the Halloween Party. The Coordinator will work with committees for each event to plan all aspects of the events - set-up, clean-up, admission, concession, games, etc.
Drive-In Movie Night Committee
The Drive-In Movie takes place during the last week of September (2019 = September 26) and requires a committee of volunteers to organize. The committee will work under the guidance of our Special Events coordinator and will plan all aspects of the event - liaise with the vendor, set-up, clean-up, traffic control, ticket sales, concession, pizza pick-up.
Halloween Party Committee
Upper Lynn's Halloween Party takes place the Thursday before Halloween (2019 = October 24) and requires an enthusiastic committee of volunteers to plan! The committee will work under the guidance of our Special Events coordinator and will plan all aspects of the event - set-up, clean-up, admission, prize table, bake sale/concession, pizza pick-up, games & activity stations. Volunteers from classes will be solicited to help the night of the event.
Special Events Concession Coordinator
Take responsibility for coordinating concession sales at our special events. The coordinator will source/purchase snack items for the concession and work with a volunteer committee to staff concession during special events. This position works closely with the Special Events Coordinator.
Talent Show Producer
The Talent Show Producer is a fun and rewarding position that is perfect for someone with some experience with the performing arts! They are responsible for working with a committee to produce the annual Upper Lynn Talent Show. Planning begins at the end of January and time commitments begin in Spring, and include coordinating volunteers, organizing auditions, selecting acts, helping performers polish their acts, dress rehearsals and running the final show.
Talent Show Committee
Upper Lynn's Got Talent takes place in late Spring and the kids love it! Students in grades 3 - 7 are invited to audition for the show and the level of talent is astounding! This is a fun and rewarding committee, and no performing arts experience is necessary. The Talent Show committee works with the Talent Show producer and is responsible for organizing auditions, selecting acts, helping performers polish their acts, dress rehearsals, liaising with the venue and coordinating volunteers. Planning begins at the end of January. Time commitments begin in Spring and include attendance at the school during school hours for auditions & rehearsals (lunch/recess).
Spring Carnival Chair
The Upper Lynn School Carnival is the biggest and most popular event of the year. Responsibilities include: Booking rides and games, leading Committee meetings, creating volunteer schedules, class station sign-ups, scheduling, overall coordination of the event and having fun, of course! Great position for the person who loves to plan and execute a fantastic event with team support! Time Frame: Early planning starts mid October - 2 hrs at most and gradually builds towards May which is the busy month. June - Full day commitment for the event.
Carnival Silent Auction Coordinator
The Silent Auction takes place at the Spring Carnival. Coordinators are responsible for liaising with class reps to secure silent auction donations, contacting local businesses for donations (and picking up donations if necessary), creating baskets, estimating values & writing bid sheets, organizing/training day-of volunteers, coordinating grade 7 wine auction, coordinating class platter project.
Carnival Committee
Join the Carnival Committee and help plan the biggest, and most fun, Upper Lynn event of the year! Carnival takes place in June, but planning begins in the fall! Volunteer to help organize ticket sales, be the concession coordinator, solicit sponsorship of stations, games & activities, run the corner store, establish procedures for set-up and take-down!.
Staff Appreciation Lunch

This special event provides an opportunity for parents to acknowledge the many ways in which Upper Lynn teachers and support staff care for and guide our children; in the classroom with their academic activities, on the playground keeping them safe, coaching sports, and many other ways. The lunch usually takes place in April and typically the organizers coordinates volunteers, food contributions, rental of dishes and room set-up. Closer to the date of the event we will put a call out for volunteers to help set-up, clean-up, provide dishes and supervision of students.

- sourcing, communicating and booking of speakers/presenters,
- presenting proposed speaker list/description to PAC executive and school admin for approval
- working within the PAC Speaker's annual budget
- applying for grants (NVPAC, etc), if needed, and/or seeking collaboration from other North Vancouver schools
- venue booking with school admin. and/or school district when needed,
- ensuring all necessary equipment is available for presentation,
- preparing posters, Facebook posts, attendee registration for parent community and registration reports for PAC executive
- welcoming and announcing speaker on day of presentation
Poinsettia Fundraiser

Fruit & Veggie Program Coordinator
- Upper Lynn receives fruit & veg deliveries from BC Agriculture 8-10 times per year. As the Fruit & Veg Coordinator, you store the delivery in the PAC kitchen and then organize delivery to the classrooms. You'll also be the contact for BC Agriculture and let teachers know about the deliveries.
- Time commitment: Deliveries are typically on Monday - it takes a few minutes at pick up to check and put away the delivery. On Tuesday (or later in the week if fruit needs to ripen) - about 30-45 minutes at drop off to sort the fruit/veg for each classroom and about 20 minutes at pick up to collect extra fruit/veg and store classroom trays. Between deliveries, the classroom trays are washed & sanitized.
- You must have a Food Safe certificate.
